Fusion Staff appointed by BCS as Data Centre Assessors
Fusion staff have been appointed by the British Computer Society (BCS) as assessors for their new certification to be awarded to companies who can show that their data centres meet certain minimum best practices. The award, which is based on the EU code of conduct for data centres, will have 3 levels Gold, Silver and Bronze to indicate the degree to which best practice is used. Unlike the EU code, which is voluntary, companies applying for the BCS award will be independently assessed. For more information contact the BCS here
“The BCS Award is important since it will show that a company is not only serious about Green IT but that it can prove it has taken steps to implement it.” Murray Sherwood

EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres gains momentum
The EU Code of conduct for data centres looks set to become the de-facto standard for all data centres in the Europe. At a recent EU Conference in London there were strong hints that the code would become law in the near future and indications that the UK government would lay down requirements that the code must be followed by all suppliers to HMG.
Murray Sherwood comments “The attention the EU Code is now getting in Europe both in government and in the commercial sector means that is only a matter of time before it becomes legal. This is a good thing in my view as it will provide a base line for companies to start their Green IT journey and avoids the green wash that currently abounds. We are certainly getting behind the code”.
Carnival Environmental Study
Just in: We have just completed a substantial study of the environmental impact of IT within Carnival UK, who operate four of the world's leading cruise lines: P&O Cruises, Cunard, Princess Cruises and Ocean Village Holidays. The results show just how much can be saved in both cost and carbon emissions from a few changes. We have produced a case study detailing the key aspects of the programme. Green IT Expo highlights the progress being made in Green IT
The Green It expo held at the Barbican last month showed the progress Green IT is making as a movement. The conference schedule was particularly well populated with speakers from government, users and manufactures and showed the commitment that is now coming through. The exhibitors were mainly offering point solutions to particular Green IT issues.
